Moon River Brewing Company bills itself as “a great start to your next great time,” and it does not disappoint. Owner John Pinkerton says Moon River is distinctive for three reasons: an interesting variety of delicious, award-winning beers crafted on-site; delicious food that is locally sourced and created specially to complement their beers; and a fun outdoor beer garden in addition to the brewery and taproom. This time of year, sitting outside in a balmy Savannah breeze under the twinkling lights is a perfect way to relax.
You might start your Moon River experience with a flight of their beers. A sampler includes every single beer they currently have on tap. Standouts include the GABF gold medal-winning Rosemary Swamp Fox IPA, a spiced-up version of their flagship IPA, and everyone’s favorite fall brew, Tater, which is brewed with sweet potatoes and served with a rim of crushed pumpkin seeds, spices, and brown sugar. Their ever rotating and wide variety of brews (combined with input from your knowledgeable server or bartender) lets you learn and discern as you taste.
Don’t miss the Wacky Wit or the Captain’s Porter and ask about the current cask. In addition to their house brews, Moon River offers a wide selection of beers from other local and regional craft breweries and boasts a full bar featuring craft cocktails and an extensive wine list.
If you’re hungry, Moon River offers an eclectic selection of small and large plates, like a scrumptious appetizer of chorizo-stuffed mushrooms, nachos to share with their housemade beer cheese, or buffalo wings tossed with your favorite sauce. Unique takes on pub food include a locally sourced bratwurst, build-your-own style grass-fed burgers (or a Beyond Meat plant-based burger if that’s your thing!), and their classic dish, chicken and sausage creole.
Weekly happenings include Happy Hour 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. every day, trivia every Sunday at 6 p.m., and a delicious weekly Sunday Brunch from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
