The Ordinary Pub

Anything But Ordinary

On the west end of Broughton’s boutique corridor, a block south of famed City Market, dwells The Ordinary Pub. Nestled in the basement of the 200-year-old original Sears and Roebuck building, The Ordinary Pub surrounds guests with original brick, historic patina, and thoughtful décor. Boasting a scratch kitchen, guests can expect recognizable favorites like pork belly and mac ‘n’ cheese presented in new and infused ways like the pork belly donut sliders, featuring braised pork belly hugged by a donut bun and topped with tomato bacon jam, and low country mac ‘n’ cheese with shell pasta encased in gouda cheese sauce with andouille sausage
and blacked shrimp. Recognizable, yes. Old fashioned, no.

Accompanying the re-imagined pub cuisine and southern hospitality is a craft cocktail program that is truly “top shelf.” From fat washed bourbons to clarified cocktails, the science and balance behind the bar is pure genius. Fueled by a love of craft, Bar Curator Jessica Meyers has found the perfect marriage of style and science, producing a menu that elevates the comforting mainstays, like her seasonal G&T, and pushes the boundaries, like her perfectly clarified tomato martini. Guests do not have to be daring to drink at the pub’s bar…but maybe they should be.

For groups craving a private experience in the building’s belly, the pub also offers a special event space called Can Be Employed. A play on the “ordinary” and “common” irony of the company’s monikers, Can Be Employed reference verbiage often used to describe a wine of average rating. With a full craft cocktail bar, mid-century modern vibes, and a monthly
cocktail code jazz club experience, “average” the space is not. Perfectly suited for mingling parties of up to 50 guests, CBE (its shorthand title) is a chic counterpart to the pub’s more rustic and homey feel.
